The Royal Cape Open was once again contested on the 18 October 2009 attracting one of the biggest fields experienced in recent years with a total of 88 of Western Province’s top amateur players. The continued support and sponsorship of BoE Private Clients makes this event one of the most prestige sought after amateur events in the country and one that should not be missed on any amateurs playing calendar. The Syfrets Trust floating trophy was presented to Royal Cape Golf Club in 1975 by Syfrets Trust Company and the trophy is presented to the winner of the tournament which is played over 36 holes of stroke play golf.

This year, the 2009 Royal Cape Open was played in fantastic weather conditions with the course setup favouring a layout to include a slight south easterly wind testing the player’s skills. Delin Erasmus from Strand Golf Club emerged the winner over the 36 holes played with a of total 147, 3 over par, in 2nd place Adrian Ford and Nicole Van Wyk both on 148 and 3rd Place Trevor Mahoney on 149.
