Western Province Golf Union

Royal Cape Golf Club Team News

The Western Province Golf Union introduced the Super Seniors League for the first time this year as an experiment.

The format being that four players represent each club, the teams are then split into two sections, with the teams in each section playing against one another, on a home and away basis.

The competition being better ball stableford without handicap, the final is played by the winners of each section on a neutral course.
The final was played at Westlake on Sunday morning 14th June, between Strand and Royal Cape.

We expected to have a tough game against Strand as they had won their section quiet convincingly and on paper appeared to have a really strong team.

The Royal Cape team consisted of Rob Train and Peter Van Breda, Dave Pollock and Michael Teixeira.

Fortunately we played exceptionally well on the day, with the pairing of Rob Train and Peter Van Breda winning by 12 points and Dave Pollock and Michael Teixeira by 5 points.
The entire team played well with plenty of birdies being made which is important in this stableford format.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Strand team for the terrific sprit in which they played the final.

In conclusion I would also like to thank Peter Misplon and John Hayes for playing in some of the matches earlier in the season, and in particular to thank David Leslie, the Captain of Royal Cape for taking the time out to watch us play the final. This is greatly appreciated.

Another consideration should be Royal Cape entering two teams next year. The format is fun, yet competitive and apparently thoroughly enjoyed by all who played in it. We only need a team of four.

To the rest of my team, thank you for your superb golf in the final.

Till next year then.

Michael Teixeira

MID AMATEUR NEWS

ROYAL CAPE MID-AMATEUR TEAM ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Our Mid-Amateur team successfully defended their Mid-Amateur league champion’s title in fine form a title which they so proudly won in 2008. The Mid-Amateur team Captained by Bernard Slabbert did well to beat a very well loaded Bellville side which had a number of their players who also played for their star studded Premier Division side. The matches went down to a 4 all draw at the end of the days play and the winner were decided on the amount of holes won by on the day with Royal Cape emerging as the outright winners 15 to 9 holes. Well done to all the players that helped the Mid-Amateur team bring home the shield once again. A great victory to be proud of.
